HEPA FILTER: WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT IS FOR?
Currently we breathe air polluted by the gases emitted by vehicles, smoke from industries, aerosols … But we also coexist with dust mites, pollen, mold spores, bacteria and other environmental agents even in our homes.
The HEPA filter is used in many sectors: hospitals, laboratories, airplanes, it incorporates small appliances, enclosed spaces, food, nuclear power plants, offices, etc. They are responsible for purifying the air, filtering these pollutants.
WHAT IS THE HEPA FILTER?
HEPA filters are composed of a mesh of glass fibers with a diameter of 0.5 to 2.0 microns. Its acronym in English HEPA is “High Efficiency Particulate Air”. It has the function of catching from large pollutant particles to the smallest ones.
According to the efficiency, these filters are classified according to the EN1822 standard. The difference between a normal filter and the HEPA filter is that the latter traps 99.97% of the particles larger than 0.3 microns.
These HEPA filters trap smaller particles of 0.3 microns according to their efficiency, but it is the minimum measure as a condition to be HEPA.
One micron is one millionth of a meter, which means that many particles that trap the HEPA filter are imperceptible to the human eye. Bacteria, for example, measure between 0.3 and 60 microns.
WHAT A HEPA FILTER IS FOR?
Thanks to these filters, many particles get trapped benefiting the health of people in many places. Its main function is to purify the air of pollutants.
These filters need maintenance so that they do not accumulate an excess of particles inside and lose filtering efficiency. It is very important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for optimal and beneficial use.
